I watched "Nacho Libre" yesterday. Jack Black as Nacho is great of course and I liked his sidekick Esqueleto (Hector Jimenez) and the pretty Sister Encarnación (Ana de la Reguera) as well. I'm not surprised to see some critics (Roger Ebert for example) are not giving the movie the best reviews. It's not unusual that a movie the critics love turns out to be one I don't care for or vice versa.

We saw "The Lake House", starring Sandra Bullock (whom I think is adorable) and Keanu Reeves (whom I think is an utterly wooden actor). The movie was pretty good: the premise was that the two character were living two years apart, but were able to communicate via a mailbox and fell in love. There wasn't much plot, but it was an all right movie anyways. Fantastic soundtrack, though.

Get ye to your local movie theater and see An Inconvenient Truth. Yeah, the Al Gore global warming movie. Seriously. Tonight. Its mandatory, moral viewing for everyone, and it will affect you profoundly. I found myself leaving the theater with two thoughts: 1. Damn, i wish he'd been President.2. Something must be done. By me. By you. By everyone. Thus, go see it. Right now.

Don't fret, Forrest! I'm told that Sony's Da Vinci Code is now Tom Hanks'biggest movie at the box office, passing his previous record-setter Forrest Gump from Paramount. Reportedly, the actor's salary for the religious thriller was $18 million, plus a perk of profit participation. According to data banks, Hanks made $70 mil from Forrest Gump in gross and profit participation; $40 mil from Dreamworks/Paramount's Saving Private Ryan including gross and profit participation, $20 mil from Warner Bros.'The Green Mile and $20 mil from 20th Century Fox's Castaway. It's important to remember that Hanks took a big gamble with his payday for 1994's Forrest.

Needless to say, the US is not pleased with these developments, and unease over the situation seems to be escalating. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, on Fox News Sunday:

There's another boom here: for Russert. Man, does he love that phrase "cut and run" (he also includes Karl Rove saying it in the broadcast's opening montage). Instead of qualifying or protesting or apologizing, Murtha dismisses it out of hand and counters with his own version: "stay and pay": the hardship on the families, the hardship on the troops, and did I mention that the soldiers are out there in 70-pound suits in the blazing sun? Did you and your fat ass know that, Karl Rove? Well, if not, I'm gon na tell you, twice. Oh and by the way, if you want to accuse anyone of "cutting and running," go ahead and accuse the American people,'cause they want out of that mess, 2 to 1. Boom!

BBC June 17, 2006 at 11: 24 PM More than a million people have taken to the streets of Sao Paulo to celebrate the Brazilian city's tenth annual Gay Pride parade. Revellers dressed in costumes danced through one of the main avenues, as music blared out of huge loudspeakers. READ WHOLE STORY

Today is Sir Paul Mccartney's 64th birthday. But before I get to the lyrics, I just wanted to note that it's a bit sad that his divorce is going ahead now -- I guess just in time to answer some of the questions the song raises. Anyway, happy birthday, Paul! And happy Father's Day!

Last night, I went to see Prairie Home Companion and it was lovely. Though my God, Garrison Keillor has a face made for radio. But there was Robin and Linda Williams! And Dusty and Lefty! And the ketchup advisory board! And the worst penguin joke ever! I don't know if it would work at all for people who've never heard the radio show but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mcbride suffered stiches to his face, after an Italian midfielder, Daniele de Rossi, threw an elbow. He later apologized and that was a gentlemanly thing to do. The Italian suffered a red card [automatic ejection and suspension for the next game]. He may receive further sanctions because in the video, the elbow does not look accidental.

He was gorgeous. That ’ s all I could think. His always pasty skin had become tanned. He ’ d obviously had been at the Gym, cause I noticed some ripples I ’ d never seen before. He ’ d grown taller, out of his baby fat. He had dark brown hair like his sister, but I don ’ t think I ’ d ever noticed how blue his eyes were before. But, the most hypnotizing part of it all was, he was looking right back at me, square in the eyes.

Eee, we watched Final Fantasy 7: The Advent Children in English ^ ^ It was pretty cool, apart from some of the accents were pretty annoying. I nearly fell asleep, I was so comfy – then I went all weird and felt a bit.. meh – It was okay though, I could happily think to myself whilst everyone watched the movie. I don ’ t really know what happened; my mind just kept going through a load of “ what ifs ” and stuff like that, I didn ’ t particularly like it, but I couldn ’ t stop myself from doing it.

So Rhi and I made the mistake of staying up late talking on the phone while simultaneously being on the internet. It led to a lot of Livejournal and Myspace craziness that is going to make our friends hate us. Basically, we 're both in love with Ryan Gosling, we 're going to fight each other to the death, and if you 're even thinking about it, you'd better step off now. Foo Fighters in Hyde Park yesterday was amazing. There are no words to describe it, definately one of the best experiences of my life. There were 85,000 people there! It started off with Juliette and the Licks, then to Tom Delonge's new band (Angels and somethingorother, can't recall the name), then Queens of the Stone Age (!!!!), then Motorhead, then the Foos. Dave Grohl is even more amazing live. Seriously, best concert ever. And Josh Homme looks kind of funny with black hair. He even had his eyebrows dyed black. This is probably old news, but it looked new to me.

America ’ s Got Talent - Another ballyhooed NBC series premiere is on the slate! Like Treasure Hunters (even more so), I ’ m eagerly anticipating this series! Created and produced by Simon Cowell of American Idol fame and hosted by the much-beloved Regis Philbin, it ’ s a talent contest which goes the realm of … of … um … whatever! The two-hour season premiere is this Wednesday, June 21, at 9 PM ET/PT. Be there or be square.

it it seriously hot as a crotch in this house. I have a temp job, working at the development department of USC Center for Gerontology. It won't turn into a long term thing, but i have work for now at least! Plot Synopses for Episodes of a Gilligan's Island Remake Starring Members of the Bush Administration This interview with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is quite enlightening re: season three. But WARNING: absolutely DO NOT read it if you have not seen season two because it will spoil the ENTIRE thing for you. SERIOUSLY. the big mystery is completely revealed.also, just curious, is anyone still anonymously (by that i mean non-ljers) reading this journal? i know of a few people who did when school still existed, but does anyone NOW? you can just anonymously comment, sign it or not.

The entire cast of the film is fun to watch. Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin are great as singing sisters. Kevin Kline plays Keillor ’ s alter-ego Guy Noir. (Though Kline ’ s Noir is a bit goofier than Keillor ’ s, he provides a good, yet subtle, comic element to the whole film.) Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly are hysterical as the singing cowboys. And Virginia Madsen is downright strange as “ Dangerous Woman ”.

- I thought Damarcus Beasley's goal should have counted as I've never seen a goal disallowed like that (Brian Mcbride supposedly blocking the goalkeeper's view). Who ’ s Geoff Ogilvy??? A new name in town who came from behind to capitalize on the mistake by Phil Mickelson and also Colin Montgomerie. Both veteran players could have either won the U.S Open golf tournament should they have not chosen to use the wrong clubs as quoted by Eddie Pells. This happened during the 18th hole of the final round of the U.S Open. Both players double bogeyed at the last hole and cost them the title. And yes, my bad, to inform you that Phil Mickelson wasn ’ t the defending champion * thanks for the info *

As if I couldn't get enough NPR movie tie-ins, the guys from Car Talk make a cameo in this one. Good Stuff! Another homerun from the folks at Pixar! It's everything that we've come to expect from Pixar: stunning visuals, simple, but strong story, interesting voice acting -- in this case, Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Larry the Cable Guy, a couple of Pixar favorites, Bonnie Hunt and, of course, John Ratzenberger (who got some of the biggest laughs -- over the end credits). This isn't just for NASCAR fans or racing in general. There's enough heart here for anybody.

Instead the Democrats float Band-aid nostrums and bumper-sticker marketing strategies like "Together, America Can Do Better." As the linguist Geoffrey Nunberg pointed out, "The very ungrammaticality of the Democrats'slogan reminds you that this is a party with a chronic problem of telling a coherent story about itself, right down to an inability to get its adverbs and subjects to agree." On Wednesday Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were to announce their party's "New Direction" agenda -- actually, an inoffensive checklist of old directions (raise the minimum wage, cut student loan costs, etc.) -- that didn't even mention Iraq. Symbolically enough, they had to abruptly reschedule the public unveiling to attend Mr. Bush's briefing on his triumphant trip to Baghdad.

, Dan Rather makes known that he is considering a move to Mark Cuban's Hdnet. While this may be a high-stakes negotiating tactic on the part of Rather to force a job offer from another network, he makes no bones about his frustration at being sidelined at CBS. He also notes that he's been doing some soul-searching lately by watching the Cuban-financed film about legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow, "Good Night, And Good Luck," which he's seen five times.

On Saturday neither the starting pitching nor the hitting was quite as good as Pedro Martinez suffered the indignity of losing to Kris Benson. Pedro lasted seven innings and gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk. He struck out five. One of the runs was unearned, but the error was his own. And he somehow gave up a home run to Benson.

We like NCS's description so much we'll excerpt in full here: "In the 1999 movie, Pushing Tin, Billy Bob Thornton and John Cusack played dueling air traffic controllers. Cusack's Nick Falzone fueled conflict against Thornton's half-choctaw Russell Bell. Despite their battles and bouts of inner turmoil, both had the ability to visualize 3D airspace and guide streams of planes to and fro without having them crash into each other."
