When ABC reported the scoop that Hillary Clinton told Bill Richardson that Barack Obama couldn't win in the general election, I thought it was a good nugget but not surprising. It's not as if she'd previously said she'd be a better nominee because Obama is a bad dancer. The Clinton campaign has been arguing that Obama can't win in the general election for months. He can't win big states; he can't win among key constituencies like blue-collar voters, Latinos, and Catholics; he can't beat Mccain; he can't pass the commander-in-chief test. The electability charge is, in fact, the only basis Clinton has left as she battles to overthrow Obama's lead among pledged delegates. It's nearly on Clinton's campaign signs.

This afternoon, Johnny Cueto made his major league debut. He struck out the first batter he faced, the Diamondbacks'Chris Young. That's probably not terribly significant, as I'm sure countless pitchers have started out their careers the same way. He then proceeded to put down the next fourteen batters as well, before serving up a homer to Justin Upton to lead off the sixth inning. His final line? Seven innings, ten strikeouts, walking no one and allowing no hits other than Upton's homer.

The Kansas City Royals have started off the season well, beating the Detroit Tigers in their first two games, the third of the series coming later today. Detroit this offseason acquired left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis, and a slimmer Miguel Cabrera. Willis has yet to pitch, but Cabrera is sporting an awful. 125 batting average, his one hit was a home run. Many media members figure the Tigers will score a thousand runs, but their pitching and bullpen is suspect; dropping two to the Royals right off the bat proves that they were correct. Good news for the Tigers will come in the form of the Chicago White Sox, who are also 0-2; we'll get to see what Detroit is made of on the following series against the defending World Champion Red Sox.

Speaking to British papers, Pegg and Wright confirmed they 're still at work on just such a thing, and more importantly, announced the working title of The World's End. Does this indicate a sci-fi armageddon? A post-apocalyptic future? A Caribbean ghost ship? Sadly, they didn't say. Via Ben Smith, Obama's fundraising was once again astounding: Apparently, we'll be waiting for several weeks before we see the Clinton total for March. This is significant. Very significant. In the past, the Clinton campaign jumped out front to release its campaign numbers -- often before the reporting period had even ended. Even when Clinton had a bad month in January, only raising $13.5 million, Terry Mcauliffe revealed the number on February 4th. We knew on February 28, 2008 that Clinton had raised $35 million in February. Not this time. According to Howard Wolfson, on a Clinton campaign conference call, we may see the tax returns soon, but the Clinton campaign will not be releasing its March fundraising total until the filing deadline, which is the 20th of the month. That's

Mcgowan's 4.08 ERA last year wasn't bad for someone in their first full season in the bigs. He struck out a good number, didn't walk too many and did a great job keeping the ball in the park with just 14 home runs allowed in 169 2/3 innings. Mcgowan pitched a bit better than Hughes last year. Phil said his leg wasn't really strong after the injury, so we'll see if he's off to a better start in 2008.

You think your little sweetie's cute, but Obama sure doesn't! He wants you to be able to take paid sick days to take her in for well-baby checkups. He supports early-childhood education initiatives that would help her arrive in kindergarten on par with tots who got privately-paid preschool. And, for god's sake, he has a plan for publicly-funded health care that would take care of both your and your baby's health care needs!

Sens. Jim Webb (D-va.) and Chuck Hagel (R-neb.) unveiled a GI Bill modernization bill over a year ago, which would increase troop benefits to pay for their education. From a patriotic perspective, this is showing real support for the troops. From a military perspective, it might make recruiting easier if young people know they can go to college after their service for free. From an economic perspective, the country benefits when thousands of educated young people enter the workforce with degrees, as opposed to the alternative.
